Getting Started

The consultation is a starting point for the design process.  This is a chance for me to get a better sense of your wedding style & of you as a couple.  We’ll look thru paper swatches, design samples, color swatches, magazine images & anything that inspires you.  This will be the starting point of your design.

Based on the information we discussed at the consultation, I will put together a quote & contract for you to review.  The quote will include a description of materials selected, along with estimated costs.  Final costs will be updated once all selections have been made in regards to materials, printing methods, embellishments & additional services(custom designs typically start at $1000 for 100 invitations).  Once your deposit and signed contract have been received, we begin the design process.  The deposit is non-refundable and is applied to the cost of your final invitations.

The majority of the design process occurs via email.  Using the notes from our consultation, I’ll design several options for you to consider for your invitation suite.  From here, based on your feedback, we’ll fine tune the details of the design.  Once we’ve created a design that you’re in love with, I’ll create a digital invitation for you to proof.

A digital final proof will be emailed to you. A printed proof is also an option and will run $75 per proof. A printed proof is the only way to ensure color accuracy. If you choose this option, your invitation will either be mailed to you or will be proofed in-studio.  Be sure to check all the details (names, dates, addresses, phone numbers) at least twice.  It’s helpful to have a friend or family member also check the proof.  Keep in mind that once we have received your approval to print,  1st Comes Love… is not responsible for any spelling or detail errors.  Any materials and reprinting costs will be charged to the client.

Printing & finishing typically have a 4-6 week turnaround from the time of proof approval.  Invitation components requiring assembly will be delivered to you assembled.  Do it yourself assembly options are available, just ask!  Keep in mind that envelopes are not stuffed & response postcards and envelopes will still require postage.

Most of our design work involves unique embellishments and details.  Because of this, we suggest that you have your invitations hand canceled.  We are happy to provide our clients with the contact info of the mailing specialist at the Downtown Portland post office.  Keep in mind that hand canceling is done by appointment only and should be scheduled after you’ve had your invitations accurately weighed and measured for proper postage.
